Lincoln Chaffee signed a law that states businesses similar to Pond View within 1, feet of a residential neighborhood can only process tons per day. Pond View attorney Kevin Bristow argued that the council should not take this action because there are current lawsuits between the city and Pond View. City Council Split on Pond View Latest
Some four years ago the city seemed in financial turmoil. Jobs were cut, schools were closed, maintenance of city infrastructure, already slowed, was totally stopped. Streets, playgrounds, police, fire and other staff were targets of budget slashing. The budget commission had all but ordered the city to close down an elementary school, selecting Oldham School on Bullocks Point avenue. The meetings were held in the morning on December 28th and 29th with no advertised notice to the general public.
The ruling called for her immediate reinstatement at City Hall. The Court decision said that because Waterbury had completed her probationary period of employment, she could only be fired for cause. Waterbury had previously complained that she was the victim of sexual harassment by former Manager Paul Lemont.
